Tutorial - Create a harmonizer Part 2 01/27/2012
 In the last tutorial, we created a 'smart' harmonizer - one that will take a monophonic source and generate harmonies based on a diatonic key. This is fine if you want each harmony voice to have the same sound or timbre, but that's not really that interesting. It's not how a real ensemble works. In a real horn section you have different instruments covering different parts. You may have a trumpet on top, a bari sax on the bottom and some saxes and trombones filling out the middle. In a string section you'll have a bass on the bottom, violins on top and your cellos and violas filling out the middle voices.
We'll expand on the concepts introduced last time, and create a horn section that will stay in a diatonic key, and each voice will have it's own sound. Read on to dive in... Add Comment Tutorial - Create a Harmonizer 12/09/2011
In this Reason project we will create a harmonizer, similar in functionality to the Digitech Vocalist series of harmonizers. The completed effect combinator will accept the audio output of any device and add up to three harmonies that track the key your are in. For example if you are playing in the key of C, you will hear a C major chord if you place a 'C', but an A minor chord if you play an 'A'. Ready? Read on to dive in.
Rotator in the Wild 11/30/2011
I just heard from Jeremy Cubert of The Jeremy Cubert Project. He got Rotator Volume 2 and within one day had a new tune on Soundcloud. He uses the Rotator ReFill with an Eigenharp Pico. Reason 6 is out and anyone who already had Reason + Record probably has it now, due to the 'pay what you want' upgrade deal from October. I've been experimenting with the three new devices in the Reason rack - The Echo, Pulverizer, and Alligator. So far, my favorite is the Pulverizer. Is it just because I like everything distorted and ugly? Not really - the Pulverizer has a lot of uses beyond complete sound demolition, as its name might imply. I thought I would share three creative uses for the Pulverizer that make our lives as EWI artists easier, or at least a little better. Read on for the tips!
Tutorial - Remote Controlling the Combinator 11/10/2011
 Sometimes you want to control your Reason devices 'hands-free', like, oh, I don't know, when you have both hands on your wind controller. In this short tutorial, I'll show you how to map an unused note on your wind controller to control the 'Solo Lead' switch on a Rotator combinator. This approach also works if you have a foot pedal.  This is a short tip coming on the heels of the previous tutorial on thickening up your sound by mixing in a filtered version of the original sound. It got me to thinking - are there any other devices that we could route a signal through and mix in? Of course, the answer is yes. What I'm really talking about is using what would normally be thought of as insert effect, such as a phaser or Line6 Amp, as a send effect, so this is really easy to do. Simply add your effect as a send effect and mix your effect in. You'd be surprised what mixing in some tone from a Line6 Bass Amp can do. It can add warmth or grit to the sound - depending on how much you mix in. So, give it a try and let us know how it works for you!  I recently got my hands on EditEd4Tv's "Reasonable Help 2010" ReFill and thought I would post a ReView of it, since I am so impressed.
Ed Bauman is a fixture on the Reason Forums. He is one of the most knowledgable and certainly most helpful guys out there. Many times, I have seen a post start or end with 'Maybe Ed has some ideas on this...' hoping to get a response from the master! This ReFill is rather eclectic but jam packed with a lot of great stuff. It is a compilation of seriously advanced Reason techniques, packaged up with some great documentation. In fact Ed himself describes his ReFill as "A helpful collection of creative combinators for Reason and Record." It's also important to note that the ReFill is not presented as a collection of patches, but as a collection of Reason song files. This lets the author present little song examples to demonstrate the functionality of each one. Tutorial - Tone Fattener 09/01/2011
 I've stumbled across a few techniques here and there for fattening up a monophonic sound, so I thought I would compile a few of them into one blog post. We all could use a fuller, rounder sound, right? With that in mind, I humbly present to you the THK-1000 Sound Fattener!
